Johnny Depp’s Island in the Bahamas

This is one private island you will not be renting out…  Johnny Depp’s private island in the Bahamas.

In addition to lavish mansions worthy of being featured on MTV’s Cribs, super-fast sports cars, stunning yachts and private jets, many of the world’s ultra-rich business tycoons and celebrities indulge in the ultimate splurge – a private island.

Actor / producer Johnny Depp is one such celebrity who has taken advantage of the opportunity to own a private island in the Caribbean.

While not much is known about the development of his property, we’ll discuss the details that we do know about Johnny Depp’s private island.

About Johnny Depp

The 58 year old actor currently has an estimated net worth in the ballpark of $150 million. He is most famous for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series, as well as notable roles in several other critically acclaimed films. He frequently collaborates with director Tim Burton and has expanded his career to include producing films and music.

In his personal life, Johnny Depp has frequented the tabloids for everything from abuse allegations to his struggles with addiction and alcoholism. Although he is not currently married, he has had a series of relationships and marriages resulting in 2 adult children. No wonder the busy actor needs access to his own tropical getaway!

Little Hall’s Pond Cay

It is appropriate that Johnny Depp’s private island, known as Little Hall’s Pond Cay, would be located in the Caribbean. Situated in the Exhuma Island chain off the coast of The Bahamas, Little Hall’s Pond Cay is just one of Johnny Depp’s many expensive properties around the world.

Other Properties In Johnny Depp’s Real Estate Portfolio

His real estate portfolio has included several unique properties including a village in France, a horse farm in Kentucky, and a penthouse in Downtown Los Angeles. But despite owning property in several exotic locales, it is reported that the actor spends the most time at his home in the Hollywood Hills.

The actor purchased his private island in 2004 after filming the Pirates of the Caribbean which took place throughout The Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and St. Lucia.

He apparently enjoyed the beauty and seclusion of the area so much that he just had to own a piece of it.

Reportedly purchased for just over $3.5 million, Little Hall’s Pond Cay boasts approximately 45 acres of unrivaled natural beauty. (And when you really consider just how spectacular a private tropical paradise is, $3.5 million sounds like a steal!)

Unlike other privately owned islands that have been developed into tourist destinations, Little Hall’s Pond Cay is not open to the public.

There are no resorts, condos, restaurants, or hotels on this little island.

Instead, the actor has kept his private island very secluded, and little is known about what type of development, if any, has taken place. It is reported, however, that the tropical getaway is home to a large estate, several private beaches, a few boats, and a dock.

How He Gets to His Private Island

To get to the island, Johnny Depp and his guests must arrive via private airplane, helicopter or boat. Since Little Hall’s Pond Cay is located about 60 miles southeast of Nassau, this is a fairly short journey for the actor and his friends from the Bahamian mainland.

At one time, the island was reportedly home to an $8 million private yacht named Vajoliroja to make island access even easier for the star. The name Vajoliroja is an amalgam of his wife and children’s names.

What has he Built on the Island?

Although we don’t know much about what has been built on the island so far, photos have been released of the construction of a $3 million replica beach bar on a remote part of the island. It is also reported that the actor’s ranch-style home is eco-friendly with solar panels for energy generation.

He Names the Beaches After His Kids. How Cute.

Several of the island’s pristine beaches are apparently named after people from the actor’s personal life, including his children Lily-Rose and Jack, and ex-girlfriend Vanessa.

This Private Island is Not for Rent

All of these features of the island are designed for the personal enjoyment of the actor and his guests, and the island estate cannot be rented out.

This is in sharp contrast to other infamous celebrity owned islands such as Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island which can be rented out for a once in a lifetime adventure with a hefty price tag (starting at $50,000+/night).

Instead, Johnny Depp’s island is for him and his family alone.

Here are Some Private Islands You Can Rent Though

  1. Necker Island
  2. Florida Private Islands
  3. Bahamas Private Islands
  4. Belize Private Islands
  5. This island is our most clicked private island (Florida)

The island has been featured by many media outlets including Forbes, Inquisitr, and Vanity Fair.

Johnny Depp himself is quoted as saying that the island is the most “pure and beautiful” place he had ever seen. He also once said of his getaways to the island, “Escapism is survival to me”.

The actor told Vanity Fair that after shooting a movie, “Little Hall’s Pond is my decompression. It’s my way of trying to return to normalcy.” It is clear to see that Little Hall’s Pond Cay is the perfect place for “Captain Jack Sparrow” to indulge in a little rest and relaxation.

Other Private Caribbean Islands

Although the island functions as his own personal getaway, Johnny Depp isn’t the only actor to reside in the area. Many of the surrounding small islands of the Exhumas are privately owned, and other celebrities with nearby islands include Eddie Murphy and David Copperfield.

In fact, David Copperfield’s Musha Cay is one of the most spectacular island attractions in the world, with a variety of unique amenities that guests can enjoy. From a pirate-themed treasure hunt to a privately hosted Olympic games, a visit to Musha Cay will be a once in a lifetime experience for those lucky enough to afford it. Prices start at more than $30,000 a night!

Eddie Murphy owns a modest 15 acre island in the Bahamas, apparently located just 5 minutes from the coast of Nassau. Lastly, pop star Shakira owns a 700-acre island known as Bonds Cay that she purchased for $16 million in 2011 with the intention of creating a tourist destination on the island.

Whether they decide to develop the property and rent it out to tourists or keep their islands reserved for themselves and their guests, access to a private island is the truest way to experience the lifestyles of the rich and the famous.

From Johnny Depp to Sir Richard Branson, many of the richest men in the world can vouch for the fact that a tropical paradise is the best thing they ever could have bought.
